Huge thank you to the race organizers at the Rangeley Fat Bike Loppet. First place finish in the nordic long course–I felt better than I expected. I guess the Bkool and Zwift workouts really do help.
Mathieu’s Cycle has been great about support and advice for getting involved in winter fat biking. They also turned me on to Bkool and Zwift.
The course was fast fast fast. I did not have studded tires and they definitely would have helped in the cornering. The tubeless setup that Mathieu’s installed helped with saving weight, which was crucial in climbing some of the long hills. Great day, fun course.
Long delayed shout-out to Mathieu’s in Oakland for all the great race support during the cyclocross season. After doing a lot of slipping in the rain and mud at Minuteman CX in Lancaster, MA, the shop helped to convert my wheels to tubeless. What a difference! Quad CX in Maynard, MA. I entered the 40+ Cat 4/5 race in 33rd position, finished in 25th. The day was very hot with a dry course. Either file tread or medium tread was the choice for the day. All the off-camber spots had tricky turns, so mountain biking skills really paid off. The fast sections were mostly on gravel–always had to take care not to have the front wheel wash out in turns. Overall, great race, very fast course. Thanks for all the support in the Casco Bay CX in Portland as well.
My team mate and Jr Dirt Rider leader Jamie Dexter posted yesterday about his jr team…
“I am so proud of our CMCC Junior Dirt Riders. They all competed and some for the first time in a Mtn Bike Race Today. Just a couple of months ago when we started our weekly rides many of them would not have ridden 50 yards of today’s course. I’m happy and proud to say they all completed the 5.9 mile course which is just Awesome!!! And one of them placed 2nd in his class (Aiden) Thank You Dave Richard ( CMCC p/b Mathieu’s Cycle) for ALL OF YOUR HELP & SUPPORT. Plus a special THANK YOU to all the parents as well.” “My heart swells with PRIDE Today”
I can’t think of better words! Jaimie was racing so he asked if I would ride behind the Jr Dirt Riders. Some of the parents also rode with us and it was a great experience! I rode with Sam and his mom. We raced, we laughed, we made some obstacles and walked some too. At the end of the day, our group of six racers all completed the course. We were very proud of their efforts. Every Thursday this group has worked on their skills, they have built friendships, encouraged one another, and last Sunday each one of them accomplished an individual goal, collectively they finished something together as a team! I can’t wait to race with them again!
The Jr Dirt Riders meet every Thursday at Quarry Road Recreation Area in Waterville from 6pm to 7pm. It is free and all are welcome to join.
Great race yesterday at Titcomb. Third place in the 50+ Expert class. The course was outstanding, I highly recommend riding Titcomb–there are trails for beginners through seasoned bikers. As always, Mathieu’s Cycle provided great support, training and race advice.
A third place finish today at titcomb mountain challenge (age 40-49). Very happy this year with my biking abilities for my first year of mountain biking. (Races). Thanks to Angela Robinson and my kids for supporting me today. Also thanks to Dave Richard and the rest of the team who are always supporting each other!
